Croup - Mild
Child presents with a cough
Worse at night
Described as "barking"
Also has runny nose and fevers
Examination:
Respiratory exam :
Good air entry bilaterally
No respiratory distress
No crepitations or wheeze
Mild inspriatory stridor
Cervical lymphadenopathy present
Clear Rhinorrhoea
Nil signs of meningitis:
- Nil photophobia
- nil purpuric rash
- Nil neck stiffness
Diagnosis:
Croup - Mild
Management:
Regular paracetamol +/- Ibuprofen
Encourage fluids and Rest
Oral steroids as prescribed (prednisone 1mg /kg daily)
Return here or to ED if not improving or concerns they are getting worse
